We want to be the best custom, private adventure provider in the state of Alaska. This is a big, audacious goal and Alaska is a big place. We are a small company with a small office in Denali Park, Alaska; and we operate, primarily, in the summer season– roughly three and a half months a year.
Traverse Alaska provides private, custom rafting, hiking and backpacking experiences in Denali, Alaska. We only get three and half months per year to perform, and the rest of the year to plan and prepare. There is a point in every season where the changes made either work for the better and improve the system; or they don’t, and new changes will need to be implemented– but this will need to wait till next year to have an effect.
There is a big difference between saying you are “The Best” and wanting to be The Best. One implies you’ve made it and you can relax; the other is a never ending, ongoing quest for a better product, a better system, a better experience, better clients– and this is the realm in which we operate.
It begins with the team we have around us– the people involved. The way one does anything is the way one does everything. For me this is having good ingredients. For me this is having people around me that I’m inspired by. People that motivate me to look for more. To explore. To grow personally and professionally. People that innately set a higher bar. Our team this year is made up of these people.
We had an extremely successful season. Our clients expectations were exceeded by the service we provided. Weather always plays a factor in changing plans, but we are trained to optimize adversity. We thrive on changing conditions. It’s a big reason we are all here. Things change quickly in this part of the world. And we embrace it. It makes us better.
Change reminds us to not become complacent. Complacency leads to a mediocre experience. Change improves us; helps us to grow and become more flexible. This leads to an elevated experience personally and professionally. It keeps us “becoming.”
Our clients make us better. Our experiences make us better. This year our small, boutique operation got better. And we are one step closer to becoming The Best Custom, Private Adventure Provider in Alaska.
